The Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors group was formed in January 1999. It is the areas original exhibitors organization. This not for profit organization promotes the exhibition of cockatiels by supporting existing Cockatiel Shows and by sponsoring new Cockatiel Shows through partnerships with other clubs and organizations. All Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors' Cockatiel Shows are affiliated with the National Cockatiel Society and judged by a judge from the societies qualified Panel of Judges.
The Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors' members are breeders and exhibitors of Cockatiels. They willingly share their know how and experience to help better the breeding and exhibition aspect of the Cockatiel hobby. Several Members are Panel Judges and or hold an office or position with the National Cockatiel Society. The Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors promote the selective breeding of Cockatiels. They encourage the use of closed bands and emphasize the advantages and importance in the proper record keeping of a breeding program.

In the fall of 1998 Henry and Lori Castle had a vision. Due to the declining number of cockatiel shows in their area they had the idea to contact their fellow cockatiel exhibitors with a proposal. The proposal was to form a cockatiel exhibitors organization whose main purpose would be to promote the showing of cockatiels. In January of 1999 Henry and Lori began the endeavor and founded the not for profit group known today as the Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors. Solely by exhibitor membership contributions the Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors sponsored their first cockatiel show as an official organization that fall. In return, the contributing members received special benefits and were eligible for special Cash Awards.
The Members of the NERCE Group are a mix of accomplished cockatiel breeders and exhibitors, as well as the novice and new comer to the world of cockatiels. This unified team of cockatiel lovers build relationships and friendships, on common interests and goals. They enjoy sharing their knowledge and experiences, often teaching and supporting anyone interested in learning the care, breeding and the exhibition aspects of the cockatiel hobby. Additionally, they promote the selective breeding of cockatiels, encourage the use of closed bands and emphasize the advantages and importance in the proper record keeping of a breeding program. Knowing all this, it should not surprise you to learn, that several of the NERCE members are officers, hold positions, and/or are panel judges of the National Cockatiel Society.

One way the NERCE Group encourages the exhibition of cockatiels is by working with other clubs and organizations and sponsoring a cockatiel show at their events. Being the Castles are pet bird event producers themselves, they are aware that many clubs/organizations cannot solely take on the cost and effort of including bird divisions at their events. This is where the Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors come in... The Group takes charge of and is responsible for all aspects of a cockatiel show. The Group pays all show related costs. Primarily what the club/organization partner provides is a place for the NERCE Group to hold a cockatiel show which is in conjunction with the partner's Bird Event. In some cases a Group's partners have also provided some financial support along with exhibition space.

These partnerships are win-win situation for all involved. Without a lot of effort or expense, the host club or organization has a cockatiel show at its event to help attract and entertain their event patrons and the Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors have another event to promote the showing of cockatiels and to exhibit at. The successful Castle Enterprises' Keystone's Capital Region Bird Mart and Exhibition in October 1999 was the first such event and a total of ten Northeast Regional Cockatiel Shows have been sponsored at the conclusion of 2003. Besides the five shows working in partnership with Castle Enterprises (1999-2001), the Group has partnered with Pirate Productions in 2000, the Long Island Parrot Society in 2001 through 2003, and the Staten Island Bird Club in 2002.
The NERCE Group is looking toward to the future. They have already been invited to sponsor a cockatiel shows in conjunction with Long Island Parrot Society's October 2004 fall event. Also beginning in 2004 the NERCE group is adding a new regular activity, "Socials". The goal of these socials is to inform and assist the pet cockatiel enthusiast, to help the novice improve their breeding programs and to guide and encourage all to exhibit their birds. These socials enable everyone to interact with one another in a more casual and comfortable setting, without the hustle and bustle of a show's activities. During the socials special guest and friends of the NERCE group are invited to visit and share their expertise with the members and visitors. The Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors group cannot rely solely on member contributions if they are to prosper. Raffle Fund Raisers are held at some of their shows, also, Show Rosette Ribbon Awards Sponsors were used in 2001 and 2002. To help with the expense of awards at their shows, NERCE found assistants through fellow bird professionals. Without this help, it would have been impossible to have provided the amount of awards at all of the shows which were presented. Rosette Ribbon Boards were displayed at the Northeast Regional's Shows posting the sponsors rosettes and advertising their name/business.
