Henry and Lori Castle have kept birds for around 19 years now. It all started with a pair of Lovebirds Henry received from Lori for his birthday one year and has increased to a household consisting of a pet Citron Cockatoo, a Green Rump Parrotlet and over 150 Cockatiels. They are avid breeders and exhibitors of cockatiels since 1989; you may know them by their aviary name "Cockatiel Castle".

Members of the National Cockatiel Society for 16 years they served as PA State Coordinators and were honored as State Coordinators of the Year on multiple occasions. Henry also served a term as NCS Third Vice-President, as Points Registrar and has been on the Judges Panel for the past 10 years.

Over the years they have also been very active in their local bird club (Central PA Cage Bird Club) serving in almost every imaginable position but they are most proud of their event management positions. Currently they are founding members of the Northeast Regional Cockatiel Exhibitors group. It is an organization established to promote the exhibition of Cockatiels by sponsoring Cockatiel divisions at the events of bird clubs and organizations that would not normally include a cockatiel show or are no longer able to include one at their events. The Castles not only came up with the original idea for the group in 1998 but organizes and manages all their sponsored shows and activities.

The Castles began holding pet bird events under the name Castle Enterprises back in 1996. Their local bird club was on it's way out and they mainly just picked up and continued providing Pennsylvania's Capital Region with pet bird events. In the conclusion of the 2004-year, Castle Enterprises will have held 22 events since it's inception. Promoting education, entertainment and most of all, providing a forum for bird enthusiast to be able to find the bird supplies needed for the hobby at reasonable and affordable prices.

The Castles also have a big interest in outdoor living. Their large ranch home sits on a private piece of land that is wood lined. Besides the many gardens and the 10,000-gallon lily/fish pond, the Castles enjoy the many different kinds of wild life on the property. They diligently feed the deer that are commonly seen in the yard throughout the year. Also, what seems like some years as the endless task of feeding the humming birds that are abundant around their home. Some of the other visitors are turkey, raccoon, opossum, flying squirrel and most surprising a black bear in the summer of 2000.

The Castle's present home was bought back in 1992 in the hopes to help accommodate their ever-growing bird hobby. Previously, the home was owned (and built) by Lori's grandparents "the Paces". Lori's Grandmother, Little Ruthie, was an animal lover and on many occasion rehabilitating wild birds, etc. Lori has gotten much of this love of animals from her grandmother. When the Pace home went on the market, they jumped at the chance to purchase it. Lori has many fond memories of times spent with her grandparents in this home. The long walks in the woods to seek out wild life were always Lori's favorite. Which is probably why Lori insists they feed the deer. This is just one of the many things that they have carried on, that was so joyfully done and shared with Lori by her grandparents.

When the Castles are not working on some avian related activity they spend their spare time working around their home in the flower and vegetable gardens, pond, etc. Lori tends to and manages their avian businesses a while Henry is off at his job where he's the Manager of Data Administration in the Information Systems Division at Associated Wholesalers Inc, a wholesale grocery cooperative.
