At the age of six, Brian saw an exotic bird show in Florida and was instantly hooked. He informed his parents that, one day, he was going to get a bird. At 29, after years spent reading everything he could find about parrots, Brian bought his first bird, a green wing macaw. A year later, a blue and gold macaw joined the family, followed by a double yellow-headed Amazon. Brian taught them all to talk and do tricks.

In 1995, Brian retired from the fire department with 24 years of dedicated service as a firefighter and emergency medical service technician in suburan Washington D.C.

After Brian retired he began to developed a new way to continue saving lives. He started training his parrots to help illustrate the most important aspects of fire and firearm safety. His green wing macaw "Rocco" was trained on cue, to stop, drop and roll, showing what to do in case one's clothing ever caught on fire - stop running, drop on the ground, and roll to extinguish the flames. "Daisy" blue and gold macaw, was taught to roll over and play dead when Brian pretended to shoot her with a toy gun as part of a lesson on firearm safety. A double yellow-headed Amazon named "Rosebud", just loved to entertain with her nonstop talking and raucous laughter.

Brian and the birds began making public appearances at daycare centers, nursing homes, birthday parties, etc. The combination of serious messages, the beautiful talented birds, and Brian's warmth, wit and outgoing personality proved to be extremely successful.

After a devastating automobile accident in 1996 Brian had a long road to recovery and permanent disabilities. The amazing progress he's made in walking and talking again he credits to his love for his birds and theirs for him. He became recommitted to helping people and birds live happier, healthier and longer lives.
